Description

A little touch of genius

Even those who are only distantly interested in design know the name of Philippe Starck. If he has multiplied collaborations, creating “so many things without really being interested in it”, in his own words, he has also brought about a real revolution in the vision that we can have of our daily environment, advocating “replacing the beauty, a purely cultural concept, through kindness, a humanist concept ”. And it is perhaps in the arrangement of his personal homes, such as the Los Angeles house in which he lived from 2004 to 2007, that this state of mind is best found. A source of inspiration, even if we do not have the talent of the creator, who also says: “No one has to be a genius. But everyone should try to be one. ”

And some are undeniably more successful than others. Like Joana Vasconcelos, a contemporary artist famous for her colorful installations – we remember her exhibition in the walls of the Palace of Versailles a few years ago – creator for Roche Bobois of a breathtaking line of seats and accessories. Like Roberta Mare and Silvia Zylberman Pio who were inspired by the traditions of the Amazonian Indians to imagine an astonishing collection of rugs for Carpet Edition. Not to mention Mario Bellini, whose Camaleonda modular sofa system, first presented to the public in 1970, is now emerging in a contemporary edition revisited around sustainable materials.

And U.S ? We may not be able to design furniture that we will still be talking about in fifty years, to transform a family villa into a true work of art like Mariana Piccolo, or to bring a Bordeaux house of the 50s into modernity without lose its authenticity, like Nadine Durand, but we can glean ideas, mix styles, create atmospheres … to make our interior more beautiful, more pleasant, more convivial, without trying to do too much since, according to the words of Charles Péguy, “It is the peculiarity of genius to proceed by the simplest ideas”.
